New DJI L-mount camera coming?

Nevyn72

LMF-Patron Gold
The rumors are starting again, but this time from DJI themselves:

Will probably videocentric, I expect it to be very good and might blow a new S1Hii away?

Or would they share sensors?
DJI has very good sensors...

We habe to wait and see…

In Germany several people are already longer talking about a coming release in 2025. The structure of the company DJI looks quite interesting: the biss is an Ingenieur and not a marketing manager. If something looks good, they do it! And from their earnings from the last products they are able to do it this way.

They have already very good video L-mount camera's ofcourse, the DJI-Ronin 4D-6K and 8K....
But to expensive and heavy for me... (I once had the 6K variant in my hands).

And not L-mount, I do have the Action4 and the Mini2 (will be updated this year to the Mini4 Pro), which I love.

So i'm very interested...

I know nothing of DJI really. I know they do drones, but cameras?

Ofcourse the action cams, but the DJI-ronin 6k/8k are very expensive, and very unique videocameras which are used in Hollywood productions.

hey Paul,
DJI Osmo Pocket 3 is super popular. You probably would have seen people use it when you were in Japan. It's one of the top selling camera in Japan, I saw them everywhere when I was in Japan and Taiwan esp when there are lots of tourists.
Their Action 5 Pro is probably the best action camera in the market right now.
DJI Ronin 4D (also available in L-mount) is also quite popular.

Thanks Richard. I'm not into action cams so I'm unaware of the market and the players. Last time I looked, GoPro seemed to be the main player.

DJI and Panasonic had a relationship a while back - DJI bundled one of their M4/3 drones with a rebadged PanLeica 15/1.7; they literally just put a new name ring on the lens and in the firmware, they kept the aperture ring but shrink-fit a band over to hide it.

I think in terms of brand name, GoPro is still the most recognisable brand name when people want an action cam. But I feel both DJI and Insta360 have long overtaken GoPro in terms of the actual product, image quality, features..etc. It's just the average consumers are not that familiar with these Chinese brands yet.

But DJI has been really aggressive and successful the last few years. Pretty much any major product it launches, even if initially may not be super successful, would eventually become the market leader or at least in the top 3 players after 1 or 2 iterations. DJI Pocket 3 is a great example. I bought the original DJI Pocket back then as I thought it was revolutionary. But it also has a few flaws.. But now with the Pocket 3, DJI pretty much make it a perfect product and obsolete most of the consumer vlogging cameras in the market.

Also don't forget the DJI gimbal and LiDAR AF integration with Panasonic cameras. There is a special page about the Lumix x DJI collaboration as well:

Just to be clear, while I have a few DJI products myself (drone, pocket..etc), I have zero contact with DJI. So I have no idea how real this rumor is. It could turn out to be just another rumor that disappoints a lot of people.
However since it usually take around 2-4 years to develop a brand new camera, and DJI joined the L-mount alliance back in mid 2022. The timing sounds about right if DJI release a L-mount camera this year.

Don't get too hyped up, a lot of the rumours I saw recently are completely fake.
