My Sigma - Update

Anyone else a bit peed off about this. When I first read Sigma's e-mail I thought it was a nice offer, and I went on to watch the you-tube video presentation and again thought what a good idea it was. Looked forward to taking advantage of it at some point in the future.

Well that was the end of my delight. I then went to the Sigma website to check my Dashboard where I had religiously over the years entered serial numbers, registered warranties, and even listed used lenses I had bought. It was quite a collection as I've had a Sigma camera around for a long time, Fp, then FpL both long gone but I added the BF last July. Also many Sigma lenses over two mounts, E mount and L mount, all in my Dashboard, that was until this update. All has disappeared, although Sigma assure me that any current warranties will still be registered. So if I want to see all my Sigma kit in the Dashboard again, I will need to re-enter model, purchase dates, serial numbers, place of purchase etc etc. Such a nuisance.

Is it just me that's likely to be whingeing about this. I can't believe it wasn't possible to carry over information already held. Just one of those niggles I know, but I hate re-doing stuff.

Maybe you should check your spam ... email direct from Sigma UK to my inbox ... titled... important updates to My Sigma. copy and pasted details below. When I tried to log in it wouldn't accept my password so as suggested I clicked forgotten password and re-set - that took me to my account but as above, all dashboard details were gone, managed to find a couple of previous orders still there and my main profile.

FYI - I did battle through and re-entered all my kit. Gold member now, and had e-mails acknowledging all my extended warranties... so back to square one for me. Just been a nuisance, hopefully some benefits down the line.

This link may take you to the you tube video explaining the changes

Oh dear... sorry that hasn't worked for you... maybe EU Sigma will be a little later sending out the e-mails, hopefully you will receive soon. It was a complete nuisance to me to add all the details again - I have a dozen Sigma lenses and the BF, but was good to receive e-mails once done showing extended warranties to all.

If that is the case, Sigma should fire their website agency.

Sorry, but there is no excuse for this. All data are in a database. It is easy to write a script to import old data into a new platform. Same for usernames, emails. Even passwords can normally be kept.

That is really embarrassing. I will not enter a second time all these lenses. Sigma looses now tons of important information about their old customers, which they could have used to increase their sales.

This is a marketing and brand image nightmare for Sigma.

I'm becoming more and more of a Sigma fan (especially after my recent experience with Panasonic lenses). I have four now - 35mm f2, 105mm f2.8 macro, 20-200, and a recently-acquired 100-400. However, all bar the 20-200 are used, so I guess I won't be getting any credit for them. But at least I'll register the 20-200.

I'm sort of tempted to get a 24-70 f2.8 for the occasions when I do event-style shooting (usually parties, weddings, that sort of thing). I can't say this sort of photography is important to me, but I get asked from time to time.

With a few exceptions, I switched almost all lenses to Sigma. They are so good.

But there is no advantage for me to reenter around 14 Sigma lenses on their website so they know better how to sell even more lenses to me.

Paul I have a couple of Sigma lenses that I bought used. I still entered the details of them onto "My Dashboard" on the Sigma Website, with details of where purchased (one from eBay I entered as - other) seriel numbers and when. There is a box at the bottom which you tick or not to say if the lens was bought new. I don't know whether Sigma will stand by their e-mail but since entering them not only do they also add a loyalty point but Sigma have also added extended warranties to both. So, may well be worth spending the time, glad I did in the end.

Yes, I just did this too. I'm now the proud owner of 4 Sigma loyalty points and am a "silver" member.

So, not only will Sigma repair their lenses (unlike Panasonic), but they will give you a discount on the cost & provide free shipping! I really am done with Panasonic lenses. I'll be working on a long-term replacement strategy.

I haven't seen anything from Sigma either; however, I didn't sign up for any kind of program with them in the past, though I think I did register my fp.

I haven't received anything and I still see all five of my Sigma lenses registered on the website, however, in Spain the Sigma dealer is a company called Reflecta (who also manage Ricoh and Pentax here) and not Sigma directly. Still, I have downloaded the guarantee PDFs from the website just in case.
