My first attempt at 40 fps & pre-capture with the S1R

Below is a single frame from a sequence of a bird taking off. If you want to see the whole sequence you'll have to go to my Smugmug page (link below).

This was with the Sigma 150-600 DG DN. Camera settings were as-shipped, which was NOT ideal for this situation. Firmware on the lens was still pre-S5II, which means pre-PADF. I have since installed the latest firmware, although I wonder if another will be coming.

Images are 100% crops, processed from raw in Capture One.

Cool things I learned: I never knew that some birds give a little hop before taking off. And, apparently, the time it take for the wings of this Robin to go from TDC to BDC (approximately, anyway) is about 0.025 seconds, or one frame.
