I actually wished that I had the 24-105 this morning on the camera . Just quickly grabbed the camera and this one was on it. No slouch either But at one location the 70 was too short, 105 would have been perfect. And the 24 would have been welcome as well. But that is what it is and the beauty of going by with just what you have with you.

This was causing the magic. 10 minutes later I got a call that my daughter had to stay home, and my wife had to go to work as well, so decided that I work from home today. On my way back the sky cleared up rapidly with the rising sun, so grabbed the camera and took off for a small tour around town for a few minutes.

It's currently 1:21am, and instead of being curled up in a nice warm bed I'm out in the 30-degree (Frankenstein) chill with the S5, shooting the total lunar eclipse. It's aledgedly the last one visible from these parts until at least 2029. Gonna give the Sigma 100-400 telezoom a workout.

It's currently 1:21am, and instead of being curled up in a nice warm bed I'm out in the 30-degree (Frankenstein) chill with the S5, shooting the total lunar eclipse. It's aledgedly the last one visible from these parts until at least 2029. Gonna give the Sigma 100-400 telezoom a workout.

I hope you get some great images! I went outside a few minutes ago to see if there were any breaks in the clouds. No luck. Maybe next time.

Surprisingly, we had fairly clear (by Great Lakes standards) skies tonight. Some wispy high cirrus and cirrostratus clouds I had to shoot through, but nothing like our usual gray skies - you can easily tell a Michigander visiting Seattle or Portland; he'll be the one walking around commenting on how sunny it is.

It's now 3:23-or-so in the morning, and I'm about half-frozen. Got several dozen shots from First Contact through Max Totality before I packed it in. I think they came out alright, once I managed to dial in focus, which was a chore - I tried to tether to my laptop and use LUMIX-Tether app to let me use the MacBook Pro screen to remote focus, but of course the battery in the MacBook gave out in the cold conditions, so I had to use the LCD screen on the S5, which was an order of magnitude better than the eyepiece but still far from optimal, with my bad eyes (all four of 'em). Did a lot of experimenting with combinations of ISO/Aperature/Shutter Speed, about half of which were immediately deleted because not even I should've seen the results. But before I start churning through the Post-Processing mill I need a bit of shut-eye.

I was shooting through a whisp of fine cloud cover in a Bortle 8 sky so mine aren't quite as sharp, but I'm pretty pleased...

Honestly thought mine weren’t that good and figured yours would be better. ^^;;

but I'm pretty pleased...

And you should be!

Trying to focus manually at that range is a pain, especially when you’re using the back screen instead of your phone or iPad screen.

How did you get an SP lens to work on an S5? Which adaptor scheme did you use?
It obviously works well.

This is one of the Adaptall-2 Tamrons; a simple Adaptall to L Mount adapter should work for all of them. The cheaper brands are about $13 US on eBay, the K&F Concept ones I like better are about $30.

The biggest problem with that scheme is that finding rear lens caps for the Adaptall mount itself is a royal pain; doing a quick eBay search right now, everything in the first 120 results is really 'Minolta/Canon/OM/PentaxK/whatever' with the Tamron Adaptall logo on it. Even when you can find one for the actual Adaptall mount, they're as expensive as the cheaper Adaptall to L-Mount adapters. You might be better off just getting one of the adapters for each Adaptall lens you want to use, then standard L-Mount rear caps.

Oh, one other thing - what post processing did you use? I ran mine through On1 Photo Raw's AI denoise filter and that made a significant improvement.

Here's what the last one looked like without the denoise:
