Hello,
I’m relatively new here so I can’t remember if I’ve posted here before.
I have a couple of questions I hope I can get answers to here…
1. How do you set up the hybrid zoom when using the S9 with the 24-60mm Lumix lens?
2. How do you customise/set up the button on the lens?
And I have a question regarding geotagging.
when using the S9, the LumixLab app shows Geotagging is on when using Bluetooth but when it comes to looking at the photographs in Flickr, no geotags are shown. Does that mean I need to use WiFi to make it work or should it just work when connected via Bluetooth?
I can’t find a way to send Panasonic/Lumix feedback other that speaking to them via support during the working day, which isn’t an option for me.

Hi @Macjim.

I don't have the 24-60mm lens but assume the settings are the same for any zoom. The following is for Hybrid Zoom(Photo):

My settings:
Photo menu -> Others (Photo 1):
- Hybrid Zoom(Photo) -> SET
- Focal Length Display Setting: Composite Focal Length
- Effect at Wide Angle (Photo): ON
- Minimum Image Size: M
- Set Recording Image Size: OFF

Now turn Hybrid Zoom(Photo) to ON and try it out. I've put Hybrid Zoom and Crop Zoom on my Quick menu for easy access.

2. How do you customise/set up the button on the lens?
I don't have a lens with a button so I can't help you much with this but have a look at the Custom (Cog) menu -> Lens / Others sub menu and you will see the Lens Fn Button Setting option.

And I have a question regarding geotagging.

There were some conversations about geotagging on the forum here over a year ago with the LUMIX Sync app. I think this was before LUMIX Lab was released, or at least before it had the ability to do geotagging.

I have just checked with my S9 and LUMIX Lab and was able to geotag successfully, however it does seem a bit inconsistent. GPS stopped a few times after the camera display turned off automatically and/or the phone went to sleep but the behaviour wasn't inconsistent and I couldn't replicate the problem every time.

Camera settings:
Bluetooth:

- Bluetooth: ON
- Location Logging: ON

Power Save Mode:
Sleep Mode: OFF
Auto Monitor Off: 1 MIN.

Turn on the camera and start LUMIX Lab. The Bluetooth connection should be automatically established and you should see the Bluetooth icon and GPS icon shown on the LCD/EVF of the camera in the top right corner of the display. It can take 5-10 seconds for the connection to be established. The GPS icon must be solid white.

If the GPS letters go dull then the geotagging has stopped. This is where I found some inconsistency after the camera LCD turned off and the phone was asleep. When I brought the LUMIX Lab app back to the foreground it re-established GPS but not every time. I don't know why but suspect this is a bit buggy.

I then tried using the LUMIX Sync app which I used before LUMIX Lab was released) and it was much more consistent with GPS. The GPS functionality wasn't lost if the phone went to sleep or if I used other apps and left LUMIX Sync in the background or if the camera LCD turned off.

If I turned off the camera to change lenses, then I needed to bring the LUMIX Sync back to the foreground for the GPS icon to go solid white (which happened quickly).

So I think LUMIX Sync is more reliable with GPS than LUMIX Lab. I guess this needs to be reported to Panasonic.

Hello Pete, thank you for that most comprehensive response. I will do as you have advised and get it set up today… thank you.
Yes, it sounds like Panasonic/Lumix needs to see this feedback but how do we send feedback to them? Their website doesn’t appear to have a way to do so (anyone know?).

You're welcome.

Regarding reporting this, I don't know what the best channel is. I recently posted a question on the LUMIX Live webcast show about a discrepancy between my S5II and S9 with zebra settings. The presenter said he would consult with someone else and get back to me but I've not heard anything back yet.

I think there’s a way now that I have searched the website, and it appears there’s a weekday only chat option that I may try. If that works I’ll pass this on.

Okay, I now know why I can’t get the hybrid setting to work… I shoot in RAW: it only works when set to JPG. ☹️

It works with JPEG+RAW. I don't know about other RAW photoeditors, but with Lightroom the RAW comes up with the hybrid crop. And you can discard the JPEG.

Sorry, you've misunderstood me, I shoot in RAW in-camera and because of that, the hybrid option isn't highlighted as an option in the camera menu.
It seems you need to shoot JPG for the hybrid to be selected, or at least that seems to be the case with my S9.
Best regards

Yes, I have my S9 set up to record both RAW and JPG. I mostly use the RAWs and discard the JPGs.

Please read carefully. If you select RAW+JPEG (both formats at the same time) you can use hybrid zoom for RAW. Just don't use the JPEG files.

To set the lens button go in to the cog menu (3rd icon) most left. And then to the last item from the submenus (Lens / Others) there is a setting Lens Fn Button Setting.
Checked it just now on my s5ii with 24-60 attached. Mine is set to AF-ON, but I actually never use the button at all.
