Latest S1ii rumours

I hope these rumours are correct. Panasonic needs to show the market that they are sticking with L-mount.

Or a very High Market camera with a sensor from DJI or BMD, they have very good sensors.... Not likely though, although they are in the Alliance.
 
Right now, the rumours aren't adding up...

The S1Rii is said to be an SL3 lookalike, but with better video. The limiting factor for better video on the SL3 is the readout speed of the 60Mp sensor. So, iIf "lookalike" means the same sensor, then the limiting factor for better video will still be there. So, either the video isn't better, or it's a different sensor.

There is a Sony 44Mp FF sensor (IMX 366) that is stacked and delivers high readout speed. Maybe Panasonic will use that, but then it won't be an SL3 lookalike.

Now, I think in fact that such a move would make a lot of sense. An S1ii/S1iiX dual release, mirroring the S5ii/S5iiX pattern, would be a much better option for Panasonic. It will double-down on their hybrid credentials and won't step too much on Leica's shoes. Leave Leica to the super hi-res, stills-mainly camera, and instead focus on the hybrid market. That would also explain the rumour that there is no S1Hii in the immediate pipeline. With an S1ii/S1iiX combo there would be no need for an S1Hii.

And as a still-only photographer, I'd be very happy with a 44Mp replacement for the S1R. 44Mp really is plenty.

And maybe the April release will be a retro-styled camera to compete with the Nikon Zf etc? Or maybe a rangefinder-style body that works for photographers and competes with the Sony A7C? I think that would be a smart move given how many Sony A7Cii/A7CR bodies I saw being wielded during my trip to Japan.

Maybe even that FF Foveon sensor (I'm clearly locked in a dream state today!).
 
What is that thing about Capture One and the new Lumix camera? Can you edit in camera or what? :rolleyes:

I have a Capture One perpetual license from 2020 (!?) that I don't use at all. You can not do firmware updates if you do not want to pay for them... and I use mainly lightroom.

According to the CP+ timetable, it seems that Sigma is scheduled to give a talk on a new product. It will be interesting to see if it will be the "telephoto lens" that was mentioned in an interview at the end of last year. Yu-tobi, who is scheduled to give a talk, often uses telephoto lenses when photographing wild birds, so it seems highly likely that Sigma's new product will be a telephoto lens. At the moment, the focal length and maximum aperture are unknown. It will be interesting to see if it will be a zoom lens or a second super telephoto prime lens.

Maybe Panasonic will bundle Capture One as predefined Raw Converter? Panasonic never provides own software, in the past a special version of SilkyPix was their „own“ converter. When they will bundle Capture One with the cameras it will be a smart move and they will also get support for updates with new Win and OSX versions…
 
I hope bundling Capture One doesn’t piss off Adobe resulting in late or weak support in ACR.
 
As far as I remember, C1 had always an advantage with tethering. Maybe there will be some cool features for Lumix video/photo in this direction?

Yeah, tethering was the first thing I thought of.

I've owned C1 for several years, and it does a better job of RAW development in some circumstances than On1; but I rarely use it unless I have to, because I don't get along with the interface.
 
As a 99% stills shooter and looking for a versatile system, I am looking with sadness towards the SL3 like S1Rii launch.
I don’t to say that the SL3 camera is a bad camera, but aside of the +20MP count and new AF system what are the real improvements to the original S1R with 6 years old tech.
If I got this right, then even the HighRes mode is gone. With 47MP the CPU was able to do this and 6 years later the new CPU can’t handle the additional 20MP?

I still had the hope that Panasonic, as a giant in electronics, is willing to compete with products like Nikon Z8 or the Canon R5ii, but this hope is vanishing.

Well, we don’t know yet what the S1ii will be. I’m not investing any emotional energy until I see it.

But if the S1Rii arrives and it’s a clone of the SL3 then as a landscape stills shooter I’ll be pretty happy. The 60Mp sensor is a definite improvement over the current 47Mp one:

- Lower noise floor/wider DR
- Better high ISO performance
- Can deliver 18, 36, or 60Mp full frame raws

And then there are other improvements like PDAF and latest Bluetooth specs. I also expect it to have Live Comp and HHHR, both of which will be nice to have.

The times of mind blowing, giant steps of new capabiiities from one generation to the next are over - since around 10 years - with every brand.

There are no mind blowing improvements from a Nikon D800/ D850 to Nikon Z8. Or Sony A7R IV to V.

Just face reality.
