Full moon light by XAVIER GUTierrez, on Flickr

Panasonic DC-S5M2X + LUMIX S 50/F1.4 at ƒ/2.0 - 1/5 - ISO 3200

This photo was taken on a pitch-black night, but with the light of a full moon. I used a tripod and decided to leave the ISO on automatic. At ISO 100, I was getting a shutter speed of about 3 seconds, if I remember correctly, because the brightness of the full moon and the reflection off the snow is stunning. But I think that at ISO 3200, the S5IIx sensor has no problem lifting the shadows. I stopped down the aperture a little (f/2) to make the edges sharper... but honestly, the Lumix 50mm f/1.4 has no problem with sharpness wide open... It's impressive how clean the photo comes out under those conditions.

Very nice. I went to Flickr to look at the ISO etc before I read your text underneath. 1/5s at f2, ISO 3200 for moonlight only is pretty impressive. What is causing the strip of brightness across te town?

Ah, summer! It seems far away for us northerners at the moment!
Yes, it was an absolutely beautiful summer afternoon and evening here in Sydney today, 26 degrees C, light coastal breeze, just perfect. I went for a walk after work with the S9 in my hand and just kept going. Clocked up 9km.

Thanks Paul, it's the streetlights. Actually, the church was extra brightly lit and almost overexposed.

It's a gorgeous shot. I'd be really tempted to crop it XPan though (65:24).

Nice to see some people pics. Not many of us here are into portraits.
Thank you. Lumix cameras are absolutely wonderful for portraits. I have been beyond pleased with the results I've been getting with the S1IIe and s5II.

Finally got to editing these this month. Jessa from a photoshoot I did using the Lumix S1IIe and Sigma 28-70. A grossly underrated lens.

Sigma fp, Hexanon 40/1.8

This one was disappointing. A very foggy day driving home from Christmas at sis's in central Illinois, and coming through a windmill farm looming through the fog. And I couldn't take the time to find a really good angle on it. Last few weeks have been pretty discouraging from a photography standpoint.

I've been sitting on these pics for almost a month now, slowly working through them. I was looking forward to this visit to the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art; they had a new exhibit, "Painted Worlds: Color and Culture in Mesoamerican Art" that sounded interesting, and I was going to take another shot at using a polarizer to reduce reflections - see if I could get it to work any better this time. Unfortunately, though the exhibit was cool, this was the closest I got to an aesthetic pic:

Everything else I got was basically documentary - they had some nice pieces, but I wasn't successful in doing anything with them.

I did like how this turned out; I've shot it before, but those were almost monochromatic, while this one was more blues and tans.

I also wanted to give the 57/1.4 another spin, and this wasn't too bad.

This attempt with the polarizer also falls into 'not too bad'; no reflections at least, unlike others in the shoot, but the ISO 6400 is bloody obvious even with some pretty capable denoising.

This ISO 5000 shot did better, though it wasn't shooting through glass. ^^;;

My Hexanon 57mm f/1.4 should be arriving later today from Italy so I look forward to trying it out :p
