Forgive me, for I have Been Foolish

Thanks for these two posts Jayne. You can't argue with the output, that's for sure. I agree they have a nice crispness to them. I really like one with the cows - it's got a certain "je ne sais quoi" about it!

Your point about having internal storage and a fast USB port is an interesting point. I rarely fill a 32GB card in a day's shooting, and that's with a 44Mp or 47Mp sensor and shooting raw, so an internal 256GB of memory would work well for me; especially since I've been known to drive to a location to shoot something and arrive with the camera and bag devoid of memory cards! So long as the internal memory is as fast as a good quality SD/CF card then I can see little downside for most people's needs, esp on this sort of camera where spray and prey style burst shooting would be cruel and unnecessary!

But the lack of IBIS, EVF, and swivel screen (esp all three) are huge issues for me so I can't see one heading my way, even with encouragement from posts like yours!

Jane I really enjoyed your posts yesterday, all the things you highlighted are exactly what I’m looking for. I was on the fence over purchasing the BF as I’m very happy with my FPL so it”s taken awhile for the heart to overcome the head. When my camera arrives I’m looking forward to comparing images shot from both cameras using the same lens.
PS… great photos!

Another couple wouldn't fit above.. I've taken around 1,000 images in a couple of weeks, mostly happy.View attachment 14190

Thank you, Jayne. The photos are truly spectacular. I'm still thinking about using the small Leica 18mm f/2.8 pancake lens with a potential/future Lumix S9 (or Sigma BF) as an ideal hybrid combo for photography and video to replace my EDC Ricoh GRiii, which is excellent for photography but practically useless for video. That's why I'm wondering if the AF on the small Leica 18mm would be good enough for video with Lumix cameras (or the Sigma BF).

Thanks Allan, that will be an interesting comparison to do. You may remember I was a big fan of the FpL and used one for about three years. Always loved the files from it,
but had a real love/hate, mostly the latter, relationship with the EVF. Because an EVF is not an option on the BF there's nothing for me to get naggy about :D . Noises from some about it being overpriced for the feature set it has, well having used and handled one I would argue that. I'm not sure Sigma can be making a great deal out of this level of workmanship, and I salute them for their thinking and producing something different and quite beautiful.

I'm not someone who wants or who wears jewellery or fancy watches, always been happier with a camera bag rather than a designer handbag, so I'm not looking for that experience at all, in fact I'm quite glad to have ended up with a black one, having a silver TL that often ended up as the topic of conversation, so far it hasn't caused much of a stir, other than our son who isn't generally interested in photography or cameras, but he's been totally engrossed in how the BF feels, and the UI, it immediately caught his eye sitting on the table.

Looking forward to hearing your thoughts and seeing your images once you get yours.

Thanks so much.

Video is a black art to me, I really don't have a clue, but I just just put the 18TL on the BF and switched to video mode to see what happened. So obviously the camera went to default video mode, which seems to be UHD 29.97 FPS, H264 - hopefully those numbers will mean something to you. I put it all in auto, with animal/human eye detection and just pressed the record button following one of our dogs round the garden. Green box followed the dog without issue, I moved close and then away, sound picked up my silly noises encouraging responses from the dog and to my totally untrained eye, it all seemed to do what it needed to without issue. Certainly wouldn't win any awards and I'm not sure if that tells you anything helpful, other than BF happily does video with the 18 TL and the autofocus seemed fine, I have nothing to compare it to though. Hopefully you can find a used copy somewhere so you can give it a try, MPB maybe so you have to option to return if not up to the job for you:D.

That is the information that I needed, thank you! If the AF works fine it is a very interesting option for a hybrid combo. Sometimes apsc crop for video is even better and the Lumix cameras do it for slow motion resolutions, for example. For photography is different, as you know, but 10mpx resolution could be enogh.

I found this video of someone using the Sigma Fp with the Leica 18mm f2.8 and the phtos are great too.
