Forgive me, for I have Been Foolish

Here we go, a new handgrip for the Sigma BF (400€):

Yuck, what an abomination.

I suppose that if someone is determined to put larger lenses on the camera then it might help, but to me that defeats the purpose of buying such a small camera in the first place.

Some photos from the church of St. John the Baptist with the 24/3.5. These are all DNGs processed using Iridient Developer with the DNG camera profile.

guys, you are killing me....

No, I need to reduce my camera equipment, I will not look at it, I will fight against it, I stay cool, I am totally bored, It does not attract me at all, I do not hear voices on my shoulder, I am alone in the room....

First I thought I would send it back. But after I looked at the RAW files and compared to my beloved Leica, the rendering and colors are nearly perfect (to my taste and for 24MP).

My thoughts exactly. It's beyond me why people buy a sleek, gorgeous, beautifully engineered piece of art, then proceed to add the ugliest looking warts and protrusions, to make it "better"
Seriously, just buy a camera with a proper grip.
In general, I agree with you, but hey: I think my S5iiX is gorgeous as-is, but sometimes ya gotta do what you gotta do ... Z04 Flucht

Yeah I get that. But I suspect that you bought your S5 primarily as a functional tool. Where function comes first.
But I certainly don't see that being the case for someone who buys a BF. You buy a BF for the style and aesthetics.
Of course, people are free to do whatever they wish with their purchases, I'm certainly not trying to dictate what they do -or don't do, with their toys, I just don't get it, is all I'm saying.

I'm seeing some issues with how the camera renders colour in JPG files. This could be an error on my part: I've only had the camera 4 days and may have changed some settings I currently haven't spotted, but having searched I can't see anything obviously incorrect.

When using the Standard colour mode, reds and yellows seem to be massively under saturated. The tulips in this photo, in reality, are bright red and yellow, just like the results in this first image created by processing the DNG using Iridient Developer without any adjustments:

BF_00064_id.jpg
  • Sigma - Sigma BF
  • 24mm F3.5 DG DN | Contemporary 021
  • 24.0 mm
  • ƒ/5.6
  • 1/125 sec
  • Pattern
  • Auto exposure
  • ISO 100

I'm using DNG+JPG mode and this is the JPG the camera generated using the Standard colour mode with no adjustments:

BF_00064_std.jpg
  • Sigma - Sigma BF
  • 24mm F3.5 DG DN | Contemporary 021
  • 24.0 mm
  • ƒ/5.6
  • 1/125 sec
  • Pattern
  • Auto exposure
  • ISO 100

So I tried reprocessing the DNG to generate a new JPG using some of the other colour modes. 709 with a +1 Look Effect (which is intended for video use with the L-Log profile) came close, but has over saturated some of the other colours:

BF_00064_709p1.jpg
  • Sigma - Sigma BF
  • 24mm F3.5 DG DN | Contemporary 021
  • 24.0 mm
  • ƒ/5.6
  • 1/125 sec
  • Pattern
  • Auto exposure
  • ISO 100

I guess I'm going to have to reset the camera to make sure I haven't messed up the settings, but I'm baffled as to why this has happened since I didn't change anything between yesterdays photos and todays.

One oddity: if I set the time to be displayed using the 12 hour clock and am/pm indicators then 3 minutes past mid-day appears on the camera's display as 00:03pm rather than the more usual 12:03pm.

And for Travis, the display is no better in bright light than my fp L.

I don't know your typical "Colour profile" by editing modes by processing your RAW data.

Typical swapping sRGB with Adobe RGB profile, can give "less" saturation, or "over saturation".
Just by the start of one or the other Colour profile, and not "converting" - but just a wrong assigning of a Colour profile.
The at-most basics of using Colour profiles.
