To create a poll, the system only allows 10 (lens) options (@dirk Help!!), so I had to exclude Sigma's APS-C lenses, the 7Artisans lenses (24mm f/1.8 and 35mm f/1.8), all cinema and anamorphic lenses (of which there are many), the Venus/Laowa lenses (which, not yet belonging to the L-Mount alliance, lack autofocus), and the TTArtisan 75mm f/2 lens. It seems that Leica didn't release any lenses for the L-Mount system this year.

If you think I've forgotten any relevant lenses for 2025, please let me know.

Sorry, but Leica did release the Vario-Elmarit-SL 28-70mm f/2.8 in june 2025. This is an important lens. I can not edit the Poll. @dirk could you please include this lens in the Poll? Thank you!!

I added the Leica zoom and the 2 Artisan lenses and changed the maximum to 20 options. But I do not think that it will make sense to add APS-C lenses for L-Mount in the poll, if the L-Mount does not have a single APS-C camera.

The question should be also more specific in my view. What do you mean with "best in 2025"?

Do you mean the best image quality or the one lens I wanted the most or the lens I really will buy? What if none of these focal ranges fits to my use cases or the lesnes are just too expensive or I like them, but never would buy them?

For example I was interested in the Sigma 135mm FFL. But the new F1.4 version was too big/heavy and way too expensive for me. So I bought second hand Sigma 135/1.8 as soon a sthe new one was released and got cheap second hand.

Another example: I really like the new Sigma 35/1.2 II, but I will never buy it and wait instead for a smaller/lighter 35/1.4 ART II

Define "best" in this poll context ? It's quite a hard question without a proper definition. What is best for me in my situation could be totally different for someone else. Or what is best for Panasonic market share, might not be an optimal optical lens. For best optical there are sites that test them "objectively".

Yes, I know, it is more difficult than the poll about cameras. There are so many and so different new L-mount lenses... and as you say everyone has a different priorities or needs regarding focal lenght, aperture, etc., and we can not try all of them...

Maybe a good question could be: what is the best 2025 lens according to the reviews out there?

I don’t have any of these lenses and of course the range is huge in terms of cost, size, focal length range, intended audience etc; so it’s very hard to even define what “best” may mean.

But changing “best” to “most important”, I selected the 100-500 since I hope it will be a lens that shows the world that L-Mount can do sports and nature without breaking your neck or your bank balance. All the others are yet more variations on themes we already have.

So, here is how I decided. First I thought about my use cases.

There is no 28mm or 40mm FFL in the options. These are the only ones I really would be interested in to buy, if they would be small.

Next step is innovation. If there is no lens in the list I would really like to buy, I go for the technology achievements for a broader audience.

This is for me both, the Sigma 35/1.2 Art II and the Lumix 24-60/2.8.

Sigma made a great step forward to achieve excellent image quality at F1.2 in a small and light lens. Kudos for that. Even if not everybody will need an F1.2 it is the path for future lens design.

The Panasonic 24-60/2.8 is for a broader market and goes in a similar direction. Smaller, lighter but with more turnover potential.

There is a third point of view. New target groups. There are telezooms, which might indicate a future broadening for the L-Mount into the sports photography. I do not know how much market share would be possible for L-Mount in this field.

We would probably need a special sports camera with the a next generation AF to be able to compete with the top sport cameras for professionals from Canon, Nikon and Sony.

But we would need certainly first more lenses for this. This is why I find these lenses very good for the L-Mount.

In conclusion, I would opt for the Lumix 24-60/2.8 among the 3 alternatives, because it can give more market share in the mainstream market without the burden to need a special sport camera body for it.

To create a poll

Thanks for setting up this poll!

I've thought about this but have not voted yet. I may limit my vote to just Panasonic lenses because Cropless stabilization is a big deal for video, and for now it only works with Panasonic lenses. I have purchased both the 24-60mm and the 100-500mm. I haven't used the 100-500mm enough yet to form a strong opinion, but what I have done looks
promising. I'll work with it more over the weekend and then vote.

For this sort of poll I always define "best" as the one which I'm most likely to buy, though I voted for the 24-60/2.8 when, of these options, the one I bought is the TTA 40/2. I'd very seriously consider the 24-60/2.8 if something happened to my Sigma 2470/2.8

I changed my vote. I'm likely to buy the Sigma 20-200 soon, so I've voted for that!

I chose the 100-500, as I see it enabling people to get into super-tele shooting who might not have otherwise. Super-teles are historically intimidating, but the 100-500 changes that. The 24-60 is also fantastic, but the weight savings, while nice, isn’t nearly as significant as the 100-500, so I just don’t see it as transformative (even though Panasonic will undoubtedly sell more 24-60s than 100-500s).
