*** April 2026 Image & Video Thread ***

After talking about the OM Zuiko 24/2.8 this past week, I realized it'd been too long since I used it, so I spent yesterday afternoon shooting exclusively with it.

Once, there were Winsteads all over the metro area. Today, there are just two. ;_;

I'm not sure if this was anything before it was a hotel; reviews speak of oddly-shaped rooms. It appears to be closed now, but there are reviews as recently as January of last year.

And this communal house had a fire sometime in the not-too-distant past.

At least this is a happier story. It opened as the Katz Drugstore about 90 years ago, and went through several ownership changes before closing as an Osco Drug in 2006. It sat mostly vacant for years before finally getting bought for redevelopment in 2021. After an initial surge of work that saw the interior torn out and the building left as a shell, it again sat idle for years.

But now, it looks like the work is finally almost done.

An interesting set Travis. It's amazing how good those old OM lenses are. I have the 24/2.8 too but seldom mount it on my L mount bodies.

But I'm planning an outing to Oxford later this month with a few rolls of film - it's time I shot some frames with the old OM1.

in camera focus-stacking... is dat exclusive on the s1rii ? I still have to learn that...
I think so... It produces a jpg of 10mb, or at least I was not able to configurate the camera that it produces a stacked raw image...

This is the image stacked in Photoshop, but with lower resolution quality because of the forum limitations.

Nevertheless, I must say that the "in camera stacked JPG" is as good as this "Photoshop stacked image" Z04 DiscosmilieZ04 CarrotZ04 Breakdance.gif

Lovely shot.

But I wasn't aware that any Panasonic camera offers in-camera focus stacking, except the old 6k video trick with post-focus.

yes, you mean the post focus feature, right? I used in the original S5 and it was very convenient, but it was not available in the S5II. I think the focus stacking in camera feature came to the S1RII with the firmware update of June 2025.

I had to change the name of the foto because someone in Flickr said that this is not a snake, but a legless lizard... (Slow Worm/Blindschleiche) hahahahah Z04 Kaputtlachen

I had no idea that such an animal exists hahahaha

What a biologist I am hahaha hahaha Z04 Auslachen

I wonder what the difference is (in practical terms) between a legless lizard and a snake? Must look it up!

I must also investigate focus stacking in camera on my S1Rii.

Well, according to AI, these are the differences:
  • Eyes & Ears: Legless lizards have eyelids (can blink) and visible ear holes behind their jaws. Snakes have neither, relying on transparent eye scales and vibrations.
  • Tail Length & Autotomy: Legless lizards have very long tails (often half their body length) and can regenerate them, often called "glass snakes" due to this ability. Snakes have short tails and cannot regenerate them.
  • Body & Movement: Snakes have specialized, wide belly scales that allow them to move efficiently on flat ground. Legless lizards have uniform, smaller scales around their bodies and struggle to move on flat surfaces, relying on side-to-side movements.
  • Jaw Structure: Legless lizards have rigid jaws similar to other lizards, whereas snakes have highly flexible, detached jaw muscles that allow them to swallow large prey.
  • Tail Loss: If threatened, a legless lizard can break off part of its tail. A snake cannot.

Lovely shot of a lovely village. We used to visit it regularly as my sister in law lived there a few years back. :)

And I found the menu option for focus stacking! It seems to work quite well.
