Lovely shots. I've just created a "sample images" thread for the 70-300 - would be nice for you to post your samples over there. It would be a great contribution to the showcase.

Just ordered a Lumix 70-300. My problem is that I don't want to carry a camera bag. So I have to decide what is the purpose of the walk and decide which lens I put in. 70mm can be a little high but let's see. My optimum would be a 28-150mm with good quality and low weight. With my older G9 I had a Leica DG Vario-Elmarit 1:2.8-4.0/12-60mm (24-120/35mm). I realized that even I had 8 different lenses, that lens was always the one I had in the camera.

I can't wait to start playing with my 70-300  .

Just got the new lens. This is my first photo, unedited:

It has been overexposed one click.

I seem to get a bit dark pictures no matter what lens or if I am inside or outside. What do you think do I have to calibrate the camera somehow or what is happening? Normally one click is enough. Or maybe I have to change the area where the lightness is measured. I have now center weighted.

I notice that my S5Ii tends to underexpose compared to my Sony so I often add 1/2 stop but not always. I use full metering (the default). In general I use ISO adjustment or EV adjustment to compensate.

Sure you will have done this (but I know I have occasionally made such mistakes), have you checked you haven't got any exposure compensation dialled in. I generally leave the camera set to evaluative (1st choice) and on the S5II that seems to do the job well. Nice first shot, lovely sharp sample it seems to me.

I looked at the settings again. I had the setting in the second setting "Optimise exposure of the subject for center of the frame and measure the whole frame evently". When I changed it to the first "Measure brightness on the whole screen automatically" the flower was much brighter. Maybe I leave it to that. It is good now.

Charlie at a trot not his usual gallop so the 70-300 and S5II (and me) did ok:).

I think the 70-300 is a good option but I would really like Sigma to follow up the rumours of a "new" 70-200'ish 2.8 (ish) zoom for L mount, it's the lens I feel is missing for me, the Panasonic 2.8 version is just too much of a lump, and the F4 not that much better than the 70-300. Some rumour that they were working on one but when Canon bought the new 70-200 RF zooms out the playing field changed, given how much smaller and lighter than the EF versions they are. The Tamron 70-180 2.8 also looks interesting but no L mount obviously.

I got the 70-300 a couple of months ago and really like it. I've used it primarily for video but take an occasional photo. I also picked up a Sigma 28-70 around the same time. These two lenses have been a great combination to pack for general use. I wish the 70-300 were a bit smaller but no complaints otherwise. Here are a few shots taken around the house.

When I went mirrorless, I realised that the sensor was the light meter and therefore WYSIWYG. I turn on over-exposure blinkies/ zebras and then dial in an exposure that just avoids blowing highlights (usually with the camera in A mode and with the rear dial set to exp comp). I shoot raw and then correct later in PP. Since then I’ve never had a bad exposure. Most of the time the camera will record a +/- exp comp, but that’s just what the light meter algorithm is doing. It’s seeing the same sensor data as I am, but I reckon my algorithm is better!
