7Artisans 135/1.8 now available for L-mount

Looks like a good option though I'd still prefer an f/2.8 or f/3.5 and smaller size. €750 here in Spain.

We have about $520 with delivery from China.

Tomorrow, Sirui will announce a short compact telephoto lens that fits in the palm of your hand.

Intriguing... but if it's not at least 135mm I won't be interested, I have the Sigma 90/2.8 which is a wonderful lens, I just want to add something longer.

Sounds like AF speed isn’t up to modern standards, but for most work it’s probably fine. Hopefully it can be improved with a firmware update. Looking forward to learning about the ownership experience from our members.

I also wonder about coma, although that’s a rather extreme case - using a 135 for astro. But 135mm does have it’s applications there.

It doesn't look that big but at over 1kg it's just too heavy for normal use.

I concur, it would be perfect if they would make one along the lines of the old Canon EF 135 f/2 L lens. It was light, reasonably fast and gave beautiful results. Kinda like the EF 200mm f/2's little brother. I'm showing that my copy was delivered back at my house but I'm traveling at the moment. As an FYI, one of the services I have offered over the years is cleaning sensors and tuning up cameras, and i just tuned and cleaned a Nikon Z 8 and their 85mm f/1.2 and I have to say it is an absolute beast of a lens which feels like one would need a sherpa to utilize. That being said, it is used professionally by a delightful lady in Charleston and she has no issues working with it for hours (of course, she is also making good money with it creating very beautiful images, so maybe because it has been an income generator it feels lighter?). I'm just happy that manufacturers are stepping up to the plate and adding to the L Mount stables to give us a choice!

“Too heavy” is relative. It just depends on what you are doing, and whether or not you need the benefits that come with the weight. For example, I’d never hike with a 135/1.8, unless my intent was to capture a very specific night-sky scene that required this lens, or if I knew the combination of focal length and maximum aperture was going to pay off for a certain wildlife scenario. Or maybe I’m obsessed with getting the perfect wildflower “portrait.” Then, yes. I’d hike with it. But I’d never just toss it in my bag “just in case.” It’s not a general purpose lens - at least, not for me.

But then I’d probably also never buy a 135/2.8. Just grab a 70-200. But then I’m a zoom shooter.

The 7Artisans 135/1.8 is only a few grams heavier than the Nikon 135/1.8, which is quite an accomplishment, I would say. However, it may be that the 7A has weaker (and lighter) AF motors, given it’s reputation it has right now in that department.

The 750 gram Canon 135/2 is pretty impressive, however. Not sure how it compares from an IQ perspective to the modern lenses.

Here’s a Nikon shooter who says that a recent firmware update made it a “great" sports lens.

And, a photographer on the LUMIX FB groups posted some gorgeous images. The optics look fantastic.

Too bad it doesn’t work with a TC. Ah well, can’t have everything, I suppose.

My copy arrived this afternoon and I‘m blown away by its built and image quality.
Already wide open it captures plenty of details. Stopped down it gets even better.

Regarding the autofocus: I haven’t tried yet to shoot fast subjects, but it‘s already good for slower moving persons.
Even on my S1II the lens is a little front heavy. But even after an hour walk I had no pain handholding it.
The aperture blades are clearly hearable. The installed firmware is version 1.3
The focus ring has a nice amount of resistance.

The images below are ooc and reduced in size.

I always liked the Fuji XF90/2.0 But I thought it was too heavy already. A S135/2.5 in reasonable size and weight, and sharp and contrast wide open I would appriciate. For now my 100/2.8 has to suffice.
