Apparently I believe that this is a wildlife lens. I have been told by zoo keepers (some years back in the UK) before that this ferocious beast is basically classified on the same scale as a lion or tiger because of its teeth and sharp claws. Maybe I should've gotten a lens that would've given me a bit of a buffer zone.
Also, the snow in Hokkaido is no joke. Been piling up on the sides of streets up to like 2 meters. And this zoo was quite hazardous, I did earn a mild concussion for all my efforts...
On a more serious note: the S1RII is a beast for cropping, and temperatures described by my weather app as -9 C (but "feels like - 16") including constant snowfall didn't faze it at all. Similar story for the Sigma, no issues whatsoever, despite spending around 4 hours in these conditions.
