Picked up my new S9 today

I picked up my S9 this afternoon at the local camera store. After trading in my 8-year old GX85 and m4/3 lenses it cost me AUD $23.00. Z04 Discosmilie

The store had only one copy in stock, the black with silver-top version. I was intending to get the plain black version but am happy with this one. Apparently the S9 is quite difficult to get a hold of at the moment.

I've attached a few thumbnails, one with the little Sigma 45mm attached. I have Sigma 24mm and 90mm lenses on order.

I am happy to have just one lens mount now and both cameras using the same battery. The S9 will be my casual go-anywhere camera with a few primes but can also tag along in the big camera bag with my S5II as a second body on longer adventures.

Farewell, m4/3.

WOW, it looks gorgeous with this silver top plate!!

I feel like doing the same as you, selling my m43 gear and buying the S9. But I will have to negotiate it at home... Z04 Wife

Yes, I found I was rarely using my GX85 any more. I just always felt compelled to take the S5II for the IQ. So I won't have to think about that any more, and I felt bad having all that old gear sitting unused on the shelf.

Here is image no. P1000001 from the S9, just a quick snap outside my house a short while after sunset and no struggle with ISO, lens wide open. Happy days.

The more I see pictures of the S9, the more I want one. I swore no more non-EVF cameras. But it looks so nice. We don't get the silver one in the UK, but the blue looks nice.

I just checked and they are all pre-order or awaiting stock at my local retailer... the hype is real.

I’m feeling so forlorn. I had to return my S9 for a minor issue and don’t know when I’ll get a replacement. And then you show up with this; with a silver top no less. Envious. I know how much you will enjoy it.

I’m on my way on a trip to Colorado, where taking good pictures is as easy as it gets. I was counting on having the S9, but I’ll just get by with the S5II.

The silver top looks great - many congratulations!

I’m in the UK and it’s the green body option that seems to be in the most short supply, followed by the blue one. However, a copy of places have the black one as being out of stock (one seller has the green, so is bucking the trend!).

Think that was a good move about trading the kit - I’m a great believer in getting rid of not what’s being used. Now, if I could practice what I preach….

Brilliant turning in unused inferior gear for something you will use and likely cherish. It's gone firgotten about and now you have the S9.

Like I said before, your FF photos always looked superior to M43. Now you have only one system that shares the same lenses and even batteries, less clutter and guilt about owning unused gear knawing away in your subconscious. Less is more :D

The silver top S9 looks nicely retro so I'm really pleased for you. Daumenhoch Smilie

Yes, GAS is real! I asked the store manager about the availability of S9 at their other stores. He said they were "as rare as hen's teeth".

What happened with your S9 @CharlesH ?
A trip to Colorado sounds perfect. Looking forward to the photos!

Thanks, I really liked all the colour options so a choice would have been difficult. The lack of stock made the choice for me! For the life of me I can't figure out why Panasonic restricted the silver-top to a few countries. But I am happy mine is one of them!

Thanks @Oíche , I do feel so much better about trading in all that unused gear. It was indeed gnawing away at me and I feel much better about just having kit that I know will get used.

Oh man !!! That silver and black looks SIIIIIIIIIICK !!! So good !!! Wow, we don't have that option in the States. Whew ! And the Sigma 45mm looks so good on there. Is it heavy ? Probably not.. I think I have to get that lens. That's the setup right there ! Congrats + enjoy man !

Oh it's beautiful!
I didn't know Australia also getting the silver option!
The guys from US would be super jealous of you! I see so many people on reddit, facebook etc wanting the silver mode!
Man, you said it !!! We ARE super jealous haha. I went with black just because it was the best option for me instead of the colors, but I would have gotten that silver top plate if it was available here haha.

The lens mount got very stiff for Sigma lenses, to the point I worried about harming the camera or a lens. Hopefully it was just that camera. Lumix lenses mounted okay.

My exchange status is “back ordered” so I could be S9-less for some time.

The Sigma 45mm f2.8 weighs 215g, compared with the Lumix 50mm f1.8 at 300g.

It's quite a bit shorter so there's less to hang onto than the Lumix when using it with the S9.

I’m kind of the other way ‘round… I’d rather have the primary support be the body, without relying on the lens, so I can shoot one-handed if necessary; so a small lens tucked in close to the body is preferable for me. If I need a second hand to stabilize, I prefer to put the weight on the body.
