I went to The Photography & Video Show in Birmingham today. It's the biggest show in the UK for the photo & video market. All the big brands were there - Canon, Nikon, Sony, OM, Fuji, Ricoh/Pentax, Sigma, and many more; but not Panasonic, which I found very odd given how aggressively they've been pushing their marketing and discounting in the UK. Pity, I wanted to whinge to them about their shitty repair (or lack of repair) policy for lenses!

That's quite surprising, I would certainly have expected to find them there. Anything interesting at the Sigma stand?

Well, I got to play with the 70-200 f2.8 and it was on a £300 off deal so, ...

Other than that, I got to handle a BF for the first time. Nice feel in the hand (apart from the sharp edges which I reckon you could also use to peel potatoes!); but it's not for me.

I will remember to try next time I can't find my potato peeler:D

They’ve got a small photo conference coming to town at the end of the week; can’t afford to attend, but going to try and hit the free Thursday evening photo walk.

Sigma’s supposed to be there, so maybe I’ll get a chance to play with a bf then. ;)

And? Did you buy it?
Well, there’s one arriving chez moi today, but I’m getting buyer’s remorse so it may just go back again! The little 20-200 works well at 200mm, but obviously only at f6.3 and without any stabilisation. It’s fine for landscape (mostly what I do), but it’s not ideal for other genres.

300 quid off is not bad at all, but if you already have a 200mm and are happy to compensate for the slow aperture and lack of stabilisation with a tripod...

I'm sure as soon as you unbox it you may change your decision ;)

I’m going to leave it unopened at first. It’ll be a good test of my self discipline! I must be mad!
