New to this , joined as just bought a S5 and will need tips on getting the best from it and when finances recover buying additional lenses, had thought would use my Canon prime lenses but after some additional research understand even the pro Viltrox adaptor is a compromise

FWIW, I use mostly manual film-era lenses; not as cheap substitutes for native lenses, but because I enjoy using them in their own right. I like the look, and I like the feel of using old manual lenses - using focus peaking to choose my focal plane is a very satisfying way of choosing what parts are in focus, and good film lenses have a solid build and smoothly damped focusing ring that are missing from most modern lenses.

Welcome to the forums. My maternal grandmother was from Kent so I spent many summer weeks, and occasional Easter ones, in the area around Maidstone.

All adapters are a compromise really, except possible if the original lenses were from the same manufacturer.

I'm not sure if it's still made but I use the Commlite EF to L adapter and it has worked with every EF lens I've put on it, even old Sigmas and Tamrons. AF is no-where near as fast as on a Canon EF camera and can rack to and fro with telephotos but it works as well as I expected. With the 40mm f/2.8 or 50mm f/2.8 STM it makes a nice little combo on my S5.

What lens did you get with the S5?
