L Mount APS-C

Should it make a return? If so, what form should it take?

The L mount was originally launched with an APS-C sensor Leica TL, though Leica abandoned APS-C cameras in favour of their full frame SL line. Panasonic have chosen to maintain their MFT line rather than introducing an APS-C L mount body.

Could the G9II have been an L mount camera in APS-C? Could they have released it with the rumoured 100-500mm telephoto lens.

I think we are very unlikely to see an Aps-c ILC from Panasonic or Leica, which is a shame, especially given some of the excellent crop lenses available, I mean really Excellent. Sigma bring their DC DN crop lenses I think just because it's not a big deal to use an L mount on the same lenses they are selling for Sony and Fuji, and some are happy enough to use them on higher megapixel bodies, and for video. When Leica bought the T, then the TL, it was such a huge design statement, then the digital CL, to my mind that still remains the next best option for Leica M lenses to an M, such a nice fit. Given my ramble, you can probably tell the only form it should have taken for me was a CL2 with a slight bump in Mps and IBIS, something all users of the CL were hoping for, and many remain quite bitter about the fact that Leica dropped it, me included.

I’ve seen some evidence the TL line is getting rediscovered by a younger crowd who appreciate the design and touch screen controls. It’s a much under rated and forgotten line, that makes the new Lumix S9 look a bit of a brick… wait till people find out the L mount had an f2.8 auto focusing pancake lens 7 years ago
For me the CL is still the greatest small camera in the system, and the crop sensor adds to its utility as a second camera. It gives me all these alternate focal lengths on lenses I already own. Suddenly my sigma 100-400 goes all the way to 600mm!
