That's interesting. I've been considering replacing the 150-600 with the 500. Thanks for posting your experiences. My first attempt with the Sigma 150-600 in another place had been rather disappointing. But with the Sigma 500/5.6 the hit rate on this shooting was surprisingly high, about 90-95 %.
Last weekend I tried it with my Sigma 150-600 first time as well.My first attempt with the Sigma 150-600 in another place had been rather disappointing. But with the Sigma 500/5.6 the hit rate on this shooting was surprisingly high, about 90-95 %.
I recently captured these images of a Bullock's Oriole with the S1RII, the Sigma 150-600, and the Sigma 1.4x TC. AFC, 10 fps, body (but not eye) animal detection. It did misfocus on some of the shots, but overall I was pretty happy. Click into the images to see the higher resolution versions on Smugmug.Any experience with small songbirds in foliage? Loving the 500, but the s5ii leaves a lot to be desired with focusing.
Excellent!!Below is a frame-by-frame 40 FPS sequence in Smugmug of a Western Kingbird taking off.
Thank you!Excellent!!![]()
Welcome. I just saw yesterday this nature photographer, Jeremy Neipp, using the S1R original with the Sigma 500mm f/5.6, and I really admire you, bird photographers.I just bought a Sigma 500mm 5.6 Pro and I have a Lumix S2RII on order.
I don't know much about telecoverters, to be honest.Oh! Thanks for this very interesting link: animal photography, landscapes and wildlife, equipment, emotion...
I noticed the constant use of the x1.4... interesting, is the x2 less efficient (weight, loss of brightness, loss of comfort for the photographer and the camera (AF...))... and what's more, it's the 24MP camera! So if the x2 already penalizes the 24MP, it should disrupt the S1RII's 44MP even more, it seems to me...
What exactly do you think?
I've been using the 1.4x Sigma TC with the 150-600 DG DN on both the S1R and the S1RII and I'm reasonably happy. I think it would be even better with the 500/5.6, as the 500 is sharp wide-open, which puts you at F8 which keep diffraction from becoming too large a problem. Whilst the 150-600 likes to be stopped down a little on the long end, so you get F9 wide open with the 1.4x TC, and then I sort of feel the tug to stop down even more, but then you get deeper into diffraction, not to mention noise.Hello everyone,
I'm very happy to be joining the Forum after reading this thread.
I share my passion for Leica and Hasselblad.
I just bought a Sigma 500mm 5.6 Pro and I have a Lumix S2RII on order.
I'd like to add a 1.4x (TC-1411) or 2x (TC-2011) converter for cases where the S1RII's 44MP crop is insufficient.
- My first question: Is the TC-2011 powerful enough for the SRII's 44MP, or is it better to stick to the TC1411?
- My second question: I usually use Leica APO R long lenses with a 7mm telescope eyepiece (focuser glued to a drilled rear cap) for planetary observation. These lenses are obviously manual AF. With the 500mm 5.6 Pro "without a camera," can I adjust my focus?
It depends on whether it's mechanical or electromagnetic. If so, I'd rather go for a TC-2011, which is more interesting for planetary observation.
(500x2)/7=142x!!! with the 7mm
or
(500x2)/12.5=80x!!! with the LEICA TO-R 12.5mm accessory.
I look forward to hearing your experiences and will be sure to share my experiences (landscapes, wildlife, street photography, painting reproductions, etc.).
