Howdy! L Mount Expat in Wiltshire

Hello there! I was checking out Cameraderie for L Mount content and someone had mentioned this forum so I figured I’d come over and check it out! I’m waiting to take delivery of an S5 II after having been blow away moving from an OM-5 to a G9 and wanting to keep that Panasonic experience going in full frame. I’ve been all over almost every other major modern camera brand (except Canon), but I’ve never dipped my toe into L mount so I’m excited to see what the fuss is about. I picked up the 14-24, 35, and 85 Pana lenses at the same time. Couldn’t resist those crazy bundle deals.

I’m an American living in North Wiltshire for a few years on a work echange. I love photographing all sorts of things, but mostly as a way to document my travels as well as the beautiful flowers, birds, and small things I bump into along the way. I’ll probably still use MFT for tight macro and wildlife due to the advantages there, but for travel and family stuff, the S5 II should be perfect.

Eager to jump in here and see what the folks are like!

Welcome to LMF33

This is a great forum with lots of good information and help about all things L-mount, with lots of good photos posted too.

Welcome, this forum is probably quite small compared to others but it’s got a nice UI and a growing community. The monthly image threads are a great place to share and discuss things.
How are you finding England vs America? I am actually only a few hours north of you in Warwickshire.

Hi 11GTCS,

Welcome to LMF33

This L-Mount forum is dangerous. You risk to get infected, even addicted and you will loose (some call it "invest") a lot of money in products out of metal, glas and plastic faster than your wife will like it.... Z04 Wife

...but you will feel good about it! Z04 Carrot

Thanks everyone for the welcomes! GAS will certainly be an issue, but it’s always fun to share a hobby with similarly passionate folks, and L Mount, while growing, is certainly a niche community.

I love it here! I grew up in “New England” in the northeastern US, and this feels more like home than most of the other places I’ve lived in the US. I’ve made a few local friends and enjoy hiking and exploring. I’m actually probably fairly close, I live near Swindon so basically south Gloucestershire. I’ve got a good buddy near/in Warwickshire in Alcester that I go see regularly.

Welcome! I have been enjoying the handheld pixel shift and focus bracketing options on the S5II for flowers; so if that is part of your use case you might want to give that a try. Really a pretty impressive feature set for the price.

Shoot! Would love to, but having trouble getting them to upload. Maximum file size is 1000kb, I reduced the size of the file to 303kb but it is still not going through. I do remember something about having a certain number of posts before you can upload photos, that might be the problem. Or maybe it's my browser? Will have to play around with this a little more....

Just post more than 10 times I think, Dirk might be able to help you.

Also reduce longest side to max 1600 pixels.

We all want to see more high quality photography here so HHHR or focus bracketed photos are of high interest, I haven't attempted either yet.

That was it, the 1600 pixels per inch. Focus stack, I unfortunately didn't write down how many images, or save the raws. From a local estuary, poisonous plant called "thorn apple."

And this last one is basically straight out of camera (raised exposure by one stop and left all other setting the same), from this morning at the same estuary._1097882__1097904.jpeg

Thanks! Those are some awesome photos! I spent a lot of time in the MFT ecosystem, so it’s great to see a full frame camera with in camera pixel shift and some other computational features.
